Mobile CSP Teachers Report Strong Engagement Among Students

The Mobile CSP project gathers lots of data from teachers and students.   Here are some snapshots of data received from 24 teachers who taught the course during the 2014-15 school year. The teachers were asked to respond to the following question:

To what extent do you think the following things have happened in your Mobile CSP course this year?

 and given the choices of:
  • Generally true
  • Somewhat true
  • Not very true
  • Not at all true

Mobile CS Principles on edX

Trinity College offered an edX course featuring part of the Mobile CSP curriculum.  The course, Mobile Computing with App Inventor - CS Principles, was a good first MOOC experience.

Chinma Uche: Why Teach Computer Science

Bob Greenberg has added a nice video of Chinma to his Brainwaves Video Anthology, a collection of short videos by some of America's leading educators.

Mobile CSP Co-PI Named 2015 CREC Teacher of the Year

This summer, the Mobile CSP project's co-PI, Chinma Uche, was named the 2015 CREC Teacher of the Year. A very nice video was just released by CREC highlighting Chinma and her commitment to teaching and her students. Check out the wonderful video and join us in congratulating Chinma on this wonderful accomplishment!

Gallup Report on CS Education

Google commissioned a report, Searching for Computer Science: Access and Barriers in K-12 Education by the Gallup organization that has some interesting information about the state of CS education in U.S. schools and the attitudes toward it by parents and administrators. 

2015 Connecticut Teachers Complete Summer PD

2015 TeachersTeachers in the 2015 cohort completed the Connecticut edition of the Mobile CSP Professional Development course. This year's PD used a hybrid model -- three weeks of in-person classes and three weeks of online work. Weeks 1, 3 and 6 were held on the Trinity campus.

Mobile CSP Workshop Team

Members of the Mobile CSP team (left-to-right Ralph, Jen, Elizabeth, Pauline, Chinma, and Chery) held a workshop on "Teaching Computing Through Mobile Technology" at CSTA 2015 (Computer Science Teachers Association).   The workshop was attended by 45+ teachers.

Award Winning Mobile CSP Teachers

Three Mobile CSP teachers received Teacher of the Year or Educator of the Year awards in their districts for 2015. Congratulations! 
Melissa Fearrington was named 2015 Educator of the Year for the Simsbury school district.
